The Nintendo Switch has been out since 2017 but it's still one of the best-selling consoles worldwide — and prices are finally coming down to bargain territory, especially on the used market.

The original Switch is now incredible value used — you can often find one under £100 on Vinted in great condition.

Which Model Should You Buy?

There are three versions to consider:

• Switch OLED — best screen, best handheld experience, worth paying for if you play in handheld mode a lot
• Switch (original) — the classic, works on TV and handheld, great value used
• Switch Lite — handheld only, cheaper but no TV mode — best for kids or commuters

What to Check When Buying Used

• Joy-Con drift — the most common issue on older units. Ask the seller if the thumbsticks have any drift (characters moving on their own). A replacement costs £40+
• Battery life — original Switch units (pre-2019) have worse battery life. Look for the HAC-001(-01) model number for the improved battery version
• Screen condition — scratches on the screen are common from dock insertion. Ask for photos in good lighting
• Comes with dock and charger — replacements cost £30–£50 so factor this in if they're missing

Best Time to Buy

January and February are the best months for used Switch deals as people sell Christmas gifts. Black Friday is the best time for new units — Amazon and eBay both regularly discount by £30–£50.
