Dyson is one of the few brands where buying used almost always makes sense. Their motors are designed to last 10+ years, and most secondhand models have seen very light use. The Vinted and eBay listings I track regularly come in genuinely excellent condition.
A new Dyson V15 Detect costs £599. The same vacuum, used twice and sold on Vinted, costs £180. That's not an exaggeration — the Dyson resale market is one of the best worldwide for finding near-perfect products at massive discounts.

Why Dyson Holds Its Value — And Why That's Good For Buyers
Dyson products are expensive but extremely well built. A V11 bought in 2020 still performs nearly as well as new today — and because they're premium products, people buy them, use them a handful of times, then sell when they upgrade. This creates a constant stream of barely-used units on the second-hand market.
What to Check Before Buying Used
- Battery life — ask how long it runs on a full charge. New V15 runs 60 minutes, anything above 40 minutes is fine. Below 20 minutes means the battery needs replacing (£50–£80 from Dyson)
- All attachments included — the cleaning heads alone cost £30–£60 each. Make sure the full kit is there
- Filter condition — easy to replace (£15) but worth asking when it was last cleaned or replaced
- Suction test video — ask sellers for a short video showing it running. Any suction issues will be obvious
Which Dyson Model Is Best Value Used?
The Dyson V11 is the sweet spot. It's one generation behind the V15 but performs nearly identically for everyday cleaning, and used prices have dropped to £150–£220. The V15's laser dust detection is nice but not worth £200 extra for most people.
